The National Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party has proposed that the party’s Board of Trustees should take over the leadership of the party anytime it has leadership crisis.
This was contained in the proposal for the constitutional amendment submitted to members of the party by the Chairman of its caretaker committee, Ahmed Makarfi.
Under the “qualification for membership,” the proposal also said that the party must discard the minimum four years consecutive membership of the party before a member could belong to the BoT.”
it was gathered the proposal, was meant to checkmate influential defectors from taking over the leadership of the PDP.
It is believed that the party proposed this amendment to forestall a future occurrence of its recent experience which led to the 14-month crisis that the party passed through.
Meanwhile, Makarfi has said the party’s resurgence has stabilised the nation’s polity.
Makarfi, a former governor of Kaduna State, also said the party’s non-elective convention slated for August 12, 2017, would define the programmes of the party.
Addressing the PDP Women’s Forum who paid him a visit at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja on Wednesday, Makarfi said apart from reconciling with aggrieved members, the PDP would attract new membership.
