Plateau state government has been called upon to show more commitment in the implementation of Greater Jos Master Plan.
Environmental experts made the call in Jos on Wednesday while speaking with JAY FM following series of complaints by residents over perennial flooding and erection of unapproved structures in different parts of the state
Correspondent JAMES ABRAHAM reports that the experts attributed the flooding and erection of illegal structures to lack of seriousness on the part of government to ensure that construction certification policies as contained in the Greater Jos Master Plan come into full force
According to them, the six Local Government Areas in Plateau North Senatorial zone covered by the Greater Jos Master Plan have remained underdeveloped largely due to distortions in the implementation of the plan
While calling on the state government to create a policy statement supporting an effective monitoring of construction sites to ensure that buildings are up to standards , the experts also advised property developers to ensure that they adhere strictly to building designs and make use of the appropriate materials required for construction experts on Greater Jos Master Plan
The State Commissioner for Lands ,Surveys and Town Planning, Festus Fuanter was not available for comments on the issue when our Correspondent visited his office but a staff of the Ministry who declined to volunteer his name because he was not authorized to speak, however said that government is making efforts to address the problem
