As this year’s Eid-el-Kabir celebration draws to a final close, the Peoples Democratic Party and the Plateau Sate Government on Tuesday disagreed on the sincerity of Governor Simon Lalong over the religious exercise.
Correspondent JAMES ABRAHAM reports that Governor Lalong had in 2015 put a stoppage to government sponsorship of pilgrims to hajj and Jerusalem as well as halted the disbursement of Sallah and Christmas gifts due to what he then described as dwindling state resources.
But this year, over four hundred pilgrims not only went for hajj on government sponsorship, the governor also approved the release of N45 million for the purchase of rams and other food items to Muslims to celebrate this year’s Eid-el-Kabir as confirmed by the State Commissioner for Mines and Environment, Abbas Abdullahi, who was Chairman of the Disbursement Committee.
In defending the action of the Governor, his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Dan Manjan, told JAY FM in Jos on Wednesday that the Governor Lalong meant well for the people of the state
However, Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party,John Akans disagreed with government position saying that while the party was not opposed to government sponsorship of pilgrims whether Christians or Muslims, he , accused the Governor of not being sincere with the people and running a government of primitive accumulation and deceit
Akans speaks further on the issue expressing disappointment at the Governor Simon Lalong –led APC administration in the state
The PDP Publicity Secretary insisted that the past administration under his party was not corrupt but rather worked for the people of Plateau state and urged the ruling APC government to desist from painting the party leaders in bad light.
