With profound joy and happiness, I wish to specially felicitate with the people of Plateau North Senatorial District, Plateau State, and Nigeria on the occasion of the 57th Independence Day celebration of our great country.
After a bloody Civil War which threatened the very existence of our nation, we have managed to remain one indissoluble entity despite numerous challenges seeking to tear us apart. The task before us on this remarkable day is that of maintaining the unity of our country, and to achieve that, we cannot afford to remain in the past. We must abandon the old ways of doing things and embrace the ideals of fairness, justice, and equity for all.
To permanently quail the wild flames of separatist movements and agitations for self-determination in our country, we must change our approach. Military might alone cannot guarantee the unity and survival of our nation, without our people deciding to live together in peace anywhere in the country irrespective of religion, tribe, or political beliefs.
To this end therefore, we must change the structure upon which our country was formed. We must decentralize power and give all federating units a fair sense of belonging. The time for restructuring is now, if at all we are serious about keeping Nigeria one.
As we celebrate God’s faithfulness in the life of our nation, may we do that with renewed hope, zeal, and the determination to make Nigeria great again.
Happy 57th Independence Day Celebration.
