HERDSMEN ATTACKS: SENATOR JANG bACKS ANTI-OPEN GRAZING LAW IN PLATEAU

Former Governor of Plateau State, Senator Jonah David Jang has described as unacceptable the continued killing of innocent citizens in the state by suspected Fulani Herdsmen and called on the state government to immediately enact its own anti-open Grazing law in the interest of the people.

Jang, who  presently represents  Plateau North in the National Assembly also called on the federal Government to intervene in the situation by considering the possibility of organizing an extra-ordinary national conference to discuss the incessant waves of attacks on farmers by the Fulani herdsmen, who he noted ,have become more deadly than Boko Haram.

In a statement signed by his Media Consultant, Clinton Garuba and made available to JAY FM in Jos on Friday, the former Governor  expressed concern at the daring methods of attacks by the herdsmen saying there is an urgent need for the Nigerian Armed Forces to save the country from international ridicule by identifying, apprehending and dealing with  the culprits who seek to return the country to the dark ages despite great achievements in civilization.

According to Jang , the coordinated attacks which Plateau state has suffered over the years reveal a sinister plot to use the weapon of terror and barbarism in pursuit of an expansionist agenda conceived to seize and occupy the ancestral land of the people, maintaining however, that such tactics will surely not succeed.

Expressing sadness over the recent event which occurred at Rim village in Riyom Local Government Area of the state where   seven persons were gruesomely murdered on their way from the market by gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen, the Senator who condemned the acts as wicked  insisted that the perpetrators should not be allowed to go unpunished.

He also bemoaned a situation where the state Governor,Simon Lalong ,who he said ought to have suspended his foreign trip and return home in the wake of last Tuesday killings so as to find ways of tackling the growing insecurity, uncertainty and despair in the state.

While commiserating with people of Riyom Local Government Area especially those whose loved ones were murdered, Senator Jang further expressed the hope that one day, the merchants of evil who are terrorizing the Middle Belt and other parts of the country would be brought to justice
