The Lagos State Government on Monday said about 3,089 cases of sexual and domestic violence was reported to the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team (DSVRT) in the past eight months.

The Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General, Adeniji Kazeem, stated this at a press conference on the Domestic and Sexual Violence Awareness Month in Ikeja, noting that the figure was over 200 per cent increase compared to 1,044 recorded in 2017.

Kazeem, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry for Justice, Funmilola Odunlami, added that seven persons were convicted in the period under review.

Kazeem said the team had been focusing on children who had witnessed violence, adding that a total of 1,187 children had been exposed to domestic violence in their homes.
