Benue state Governor Samuel Ortom has described Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State as very shameless for not standing by the people while the citizens were being killed
Ortom’s remarks came in response to Governor Lalong’s comment during the APC presidential rally in Markurdi on Wednesday.
Lalong had during the rally ,accused the Benue Governor of non performance in his almost four years in office as well as implying that Governor Ortom was using the farmers-herders crisis in his state as a smokescreen to cover up his administration’s inefficiency including non payment of salaries to civil servants
But in a swift reply, Governor Ortom ,in an interview with journalists in Makrdi on Thursday lambasted Governor Lalong over his utterances describing him as very shameless for not standing by his people who elected him into power while they were being killed
The Benue Governor made it clear that there is no way he would leave his people behind in pursuit of pecuniary gains like Governor Lalong who he said abandoned Plateau people in their time of need without saying anything.
Noting that the primary responsibility of the government is to protect lives and property ,Governor Ortom maintained that It is the Federal Governments responsibility to protect the people.
The Benue State Governor further denied the allegation that he was using the farmers-herders crises to project himself and wondered how a government would allow herders to continue open graze in his state after the law was enacted.
While stating the he would continue to do his best to bring good governance to Benue State, Governor Ortom further maintained that he would continue to defend the interest of his people whether as Governor or not
