18 professors battle for UNIJOS vice-chancellor seat

Written by on March 22, 2021

As the tenure of the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Jos, Prof. Sebastian Maimako, draws to a close, at least 18 professors are jostling to take over from him, Jayfm learnt on Sunday.

Maimako, who assumed office as eighth substantive VC of the institution on June 23, 2016, has only two months remaining to vacate the position, having completed his five-year single term.

Jay FM gathered that out of the 18 professors, who had so far declared their interests to succeed the outgoing VC, 14 were from the institution, while the remaining were from other universities outside Plateau State.

Among the front runners are the current Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academics, of the institution, Prof. Tanko Ishaya, from Kebbi State; the Provost, College of Health Sciences, Prof. Yiltok Simon; Chairman, Plateau State COVID-19 Research Group, Prof. Wannang Noel, as well as the former Provost, Federal College of Education, Pankshin, David Wonang among others.

A member of the Governing Council of UNIJOS, who spoke in Jos, confirmed the development.

The council member, who pleaded not to be named said that members of the committee would meet this week to set up a screening committee for the applicants

There is nothing bad in trying your luck. Wish you all good luck! But I pray God, will select the incorruptible for us.
