The police have arraigned 28 persons allegedly involved in the burning down of a police station in Iwo, Osun State before an Osogbo Chief Magistrates’ Court.
Recall the burning down of Iwo police station on August 24 by angry protesters, following the killing of a young man, Tunde Nafiu, by a Special Anti-robbery Squad (SARS) police personnel.
The police arrested 31 people on August 25, sequel to the burning of the station.
The prosecutor, Mustapha Tajudeen, an inspector, told the court that the accused persons allegedly committed the offences on August 24 at 10:30am, at Iwo.
The policeman said the accused conspired among themselves to set ablaze a police area command office and its quarters which led to unlawful damage of police patrol vehicles and other items.
Tajudeen alleged that the accused persons also damaged two AK47 rifles and one riot gun as well as an SUV Jeep Valued N3.4 million.
He added the suspects also assaulted a sergeant, Ogundipe Kolawole, inflicted injuries on him and also stole some electronic gadgets which were valued at one million Naira.
In his allegations, he said a pair of police camouflage, three pairs of police uniform, one shirt, jeans, and a cash sum of N23, 000 were stolen by the defendants.
