Former APC spokesman, Bolaji Abdullahi has declared his intention to run in the Kwara state gubernatorial election in 2019.
Abdullahi previously stated his ambition during the annual Sallah get together at his house in Ilorin, but on Wednesday at Arca Santa Arena in Ilorin he declared officially that he was going to contest the governorship election.
The former minister for youth and sports will run on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party.
He defected to PDP from the ruling All Progressives Congress in August, a day after Senator Bukola Saraji defected.
Abdullahi is known as a key ally to the Senate president, defecting to APC alongside him in 2014.
he claimed one of the reasons he left APC was because his loyalty was constantly brought into question and the constant second-guessing of his views due to his political affiliations.
He also resigned his role as the Chairman of the Nigeria Sugar Development Council few days after his defection.
Abdullahi will contest against the Speaker Kwara State House of Assembly, Ali Ahmed, who has indicated his interest to contest for governor in 2019, also on the PDP platform.
The incumbent governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed, is set to completed two terms as governor of Kwara state and has stated his intention to run for Senate.
