The Government of Abia State says it has come to the notice of the Abia State Government that most of the crimes and killing of innocent individuals, especially POS vendors are committed with the aid of tricycle (keke) operators.
According to the State Government, the ugly activities of some tricycle (keke) operators were posing a serious threat to the lives and properties of Abians and its residents.
The Abia Government in a release signed by the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Barrister Chris Ezem and made available to DAILY POST on Tuesday, directed the leadership of the various unions of tricycles operators to fish out the criminal elements among them and handover same to security agents.
The Government equally advised the leadership of the unions to report any suspicious activity around them, adding that the State will not compromise the relative peace being enjoyed by Abians and its residents.
The State Government further advised applicants for the National Identity Card not to release their Bank Verification Numbers to anyone in the course of the on-going registration as this information was not required by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).
According to the Abia Government, this was necessary to avoid hacking of individuals’ accounts by fraudsters.
