Addressing the Controversies Around the Dedication of the Ten Commandments Prayer Altar
Written by News Desk on December 15, 2021
Last Friday in Doi Community, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State, former President Goodluck Jonathan described the Yeshua Kingdom Foundation, also known as the Ten Commandments, as a unique place of worship in Nigeria.
Jonathan was speaking at a public presentation and dedication of the Ten Commandments, a prayer altar with 5800 seat capacity, which was built by a former Governor of Plateau State, Jonah Jang.
The former President who heaped praises on the former governor for erecting the monument further commended him for his untiring efforts at promoting religious and peaceful coexistence among the citizens
Not done, former President Goodluck Jonathan who was chairman of the occasion pointed out that by erecting the prayer altar, Senator Jang has taken the footsteps of former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon (Rtd) in defending the country and uniting Nigerians through the Bible, after many years of dropping their guns with which they fought in defense of the country during the civil war.
Jonathan wasn’t alone in eulogizing Senator Jang for the project.
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau state as well as the Governors of Benue and Taraba states who all attended the dedication ceremony in representative capacities were full of praises to Senator Jang for the vision that informed the birth of Yeshua Kingdom Foundation International
They did not mince words in appreciating the former Governor for his vision, dreams, and foresight in building the 10 Commandments Prayer Altar’ and challenged Nigerians to ask themselves what they would be remembered for when they are no more.
Other speakers at the well-attended event all agreed on one thing; that the Yeshua Kingdom Foundation built by the former Governor is an enduring legacy that will not only promote the spiritual wellbeing of Plateau people but Nigerians and beyond.
Many also alluded to the former Governor’s unquenchable desire to build Plateau and set the state on the path of constant development even after leaving public office.
But as Jang who is the President of Yeshua Kingdom Foundation disclosed himself, the facility was the actualization of a vision he had some years back in obedience to the will of God and nothing more.
He has also made it clear that the ten Commandments church was conceived as a place where everyone, irrespective of tribe or religion would come and receive inspiration as well as offer exhortation to God, the creator of Heaven and Earth.
Remarkably, given what is happening in Plateau State, Nigeria, and around the world which has caused so many pains, challenges, and fears to the people, the former Governor’s decision to build a place of prayer, where people can cry their hearts out to God, and not be distracted or misunderstood, is the mother of all gifts anyone can give to humanity.
It is, therefore, most uncharitable for anyone to seek to undermine the project and its significance in the lives of the people through irresponsible politics.
It is against this background that statements issued by the APC Publicity Secretary in Plateau state, Silvanus Namang, and his PDP counterpart, John Akans in their bid to drag the Yeshua Kingdom Foundation into their political infighting should be condemned by all and sundry ad there is the basis for such statements.
The APC allegation that state funds were deployed into the construction of the monument and that the dedication of the project to God for use by the people was a mere jamboree is not only unbecoming of a ruling party that fails to separate between politics of smear campaign and spiritual things but one that lacks acknowledge of what God can accomplish in the lives of the people using any vessel he chooses.
The challenge confronting Plateau today is that of murder, arson, mayhem, death, destruction, kidnapping, ambushing, abductions, easy violence, cheapened life, tears, poverty, and lack of infrastructural development with each in increasing measure.
This dystopia reality in Plateau state and indeed Nigeria has been a source of constant anger by the people who feel that the ruling APC never cared for the reality of governance and address the challenges even as its eight-year tenure gradually comes to an end.
Many have acknowledged that all that is required to bring a positive turnaround in Plateau state and indeed Nigeria is to invite God into the situation and allow him to take control of the affairs of the state and the country as well as its people, a missing link and platform which The Yeshua Kingdom Foundation has come to fill.
Plateau and indeed Nigerians do not deserve less from what God has destined them to be.
It now behooves the people to key into the project to enable the Yeshua Kingdom Foundation to succeed in its mission for the collective good of all.
The State and indeed every lover of Plateau should promote the edifice and make it an international tourist destination. The ten commandment tablet in Jos is the tallest in Africa only next to the tallest ever built.
