Akpabio emerges Senate President as Plateau Assembly gears to elect speaker

Senator Godswill Akpabio has been elected the president of the tenth senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Senator Akpabio polled 63 votes to defeat Albullaziz Yari of Zamfara state, who scored 46 votes.
Yari was Akpabio’s only challenger in the contest.
Akpabio was the All Progressives Congress anointed candidate going into the election.
He immediately took the oath of office as administered by the Clerk of the senate.
