The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU says governors are establishing state universities they cannot fund.

The President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, Emmanuel Osodeke stated this in an interview today.

According to the ASUU President, most governors duplicate universities in their states to get benefits from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund TETFund.

This is as he said though TETFund is supposed to be an intervention fund for public universities however,  politicians and civil servants have been using the fund as a cash cow to be milked dry through shady procurement processes and contract fraud.

Uyo Academic Staff Union of Universities, Akwa Ibom State University is accusing Governor Umo Eno of nonchalance towards the progress of the University, describing the disposition as a threat to industrial harmony in AKSU.

ASUU, AKSU Branch Chairperson, Comrade Invang Udosen, expressed the Union’s concern in a statement yesterday in Uyo where it generally condemned governments’ indifference towards academic freedom and autonomy in the nation’s public Universities, inducing mass brain drain.

Among other concerns over Akwa Ibom State Government’s neglect of AKSU, the Union cited underfunding, lingering absence of a Governing Council, epileptic power supply among others.
