Ball Till you Fall: Hotcoals Bringing a New Narrative to Basketball

Written by on June 2, 2021

The capital city has never known it this hot in basketball for a while; however, thanks to a group of ballers as friends and family (as they fondly call themselves) who have come together as Hotcoal Basketball to rock the city’s courts. The team considered as the new kid on the block are actually turning out to be the real deal with just barely three years of scrimmages and competition.

It has not been a fairy-tale story for the team that is managed by Ubon Udoh , an ex-player himself who has ensured he gives back to the game through various basketball development programs. Through dint of hard work, the team have registered their name on ‘the table of men’ by achieving podium spots in two previous competitions.

Buoyed on by this achievements the club’s general manager launched a female basketball team (Hotcoal Sizzlers) to match up the demand for grooming female talents that abound across the capital city. His judgement paid off as both teams beat all comers to emerge champions at the recently concluded Bikers Rave Inc. Basketball tournament.

The most recent competition hosted in Abuja had some of the best and fiercest teams in the city and this tested the mettle of the Hotcoal basketball team as a team worthy of reckoning.

In a pulsating final match of the Bikers Rave Inc Basketball Tournament, The Hotcoal team were resilient enough to overcome fatigue to win the game by six points having trailed in the third quarter.

Pundits of the hoops game are of the opinion that the team has depth and quality with still much more to offer. As dark horse of the tournament, they outwitted perennial champions – City Chiefs considered tournament favourites following their history and assemblage of a star-studded squad. Hotcoal Basketball is currently on fire and there is no stopping them, their future is NOW…
