Nine people have been reportedly killed by bandits during an attack at Ungwan Dakwa village, near Dogon Dawa ward in Birnin Gwari Local government area of Kaduna State.
Although the police authorities are yet to comment on the incident, the House of Assembly member-elect for Birnin Gwari State Constituency, Honourable Yahaya Birnin Gwari, confirmed the incident to journalists
In a telephone conversation, Gwari says the bandits stormed his community and immediately opened fire on the innocent residents who were going about their daily duties.
He said that some villagers sustained varying degrees of injuries during the attack and were rushed to hospitals at neighbouring Funtua in Katsina State for treatment.
Well in the meantime, no fewer than five persons have been reported killed in a clash between the Kuteb-speaking tribe and the Fulani herdsmen in Takum, the headquarters of Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State.
It was gathered that the attack took place at the weekend when some Fulani herdsmen took their cattle to the market for sale and were allegedly attacked by the Kuteb youths, with five deaths in the attack and counterattack.
An eyewitness who preferred anonymity revealed that shortly after the attack, some Hausa traders joined forces with the Fulani to repel the Kuteb youths which resulted in more injuries and unaccounted deaths.
While some Northern states are counting their losses, the story down south appears to be the same as gunmen have abducted a Catholic priest Reverend Fr. Jude Maduka of Christ the King Catholic Parish in the Ezinachi/ Ugwuago community of Okigwe Local Government Area of Imo State.
The Imo State Police Command spokesperson Henry Okoye confirmed the development to journalists.
He says the cleric was kidnapped last Friday by gunmen, contrary to speculations that the incident happened on Sunday morning while the priest was preparing for mass.
Following the directive of the commissioner of police in Imo state, the spokesperson notes that men of the command are on the trail of the kidnappers.
