A civil society organization, CSO, the Foundation for Peace Professionals, FPP, is raising the alarm over the growing number of professional fake news syndicates that could instigate mass discontent against the nation.
The foundation however calls on the federal government to beef up its security networks to thwart the operations of the professional syndicates in order to sustain peace in the country.
A statement issued in Ilorin and signed by the Executive Director of the FPP, Mr. Abdulrazaq Hamzat, says it appears there is organized syndicate, trained to create content to perpetrate certain narrative in order to cause chaos in Nigeria.
Hamzat explains that during the just concluded presidential election in Nigeria, several fake documents and reports were ascribed to legitimate bodies, in an attempt to delegitimize the election.
On a similar development, the Kano State Police Command has today raised the alarm over plots by some disgruntled politicians in the state to import thugs to disrupt the next Saturday governorship polls.
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Dauda who raised the alarm in a statement through the Command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna warns the thugs and other trouble makers to steer clear of the state or face full wrath of the law.
SP Haruna says the command will liaise with other security agencies in the state to ensure arrest and diligent prosecution of all suspects found wanting.
