Gunmen kill nine in Plateau attack

Nine persons have been confirmed dead after gunmen attacked a village in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The spokesman for the Miango Youths Development Association, Nuhu Bitrus, confirmed the death of the villagers to Jay FM.
He says the incident which occurred yesterday, 1st October led the community to cancel its activities earlier planned for the celebration of Nigeria’s 63rd anniversary and had instead turned the event slated for today into a day of mourning and prayer for the safety of the people.
Mr. Bitrus further says it was unfortunate that while others are celebrating Nigeria’s 63rd Independence, they are gathering in the Kwal, the headquarters of Bassa Local government to bury their people.
He is therefore calling on the governments at all levels to stop further attacks in Bassa communities.
