Jay FM Staff Trained on Countering Misinformation and Promoting Media Literacy

In a bid to combat the rampant spread of misinformation and promote media literacy, Joan Davou, a member of the New and current affairs department, Jay FM, and a fellow of the International Centre For Investigative Reporting ICIR, on Monday 6th November, 2023, led a training session, which focused on empowering staff members on effectively counter the dissemination of false information.
The training tagged “Countering Misinformation and Promoting Media Literacy”, covered crucial topics such as the definition of fact-checking, identifying phishing scams, understanding fact-checking processes and information disorder.
During the session, Davou highlighted the fundamental principles of fact-checking, stressing the importance of research and the critical evaluation of sources, while also underscoring the impact that false information can have on society.
Davou also urged the participants to remain vigilant in their pursuit of truth and uphold standards of journalism.
