Today’s News Commentary is on the quest for power between Peter Obi and other presidential candidates come 2023. It is written by Blessing Akawu of our News and Current Affairs Department

Ahead of the 2023 general elections, the Nigerian political terrain appears to be gathering momentum everyday

This is particularly as the melodrama of the jostle for power among presidential hopefuls and other contestants continue to unfold.

But from the look of things ,the battle over who will occupy the Aso Rock seat of power in 2023 appears to be among four main contenders

These are Peter Obi of the Labour Party,Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party,Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party

Those who love the presidential candidates are said to be many as much as those who despise their candidature

But one of the Presidential Candidates whose profile has continued to rise in charms and chimes even as his followership kept swelling up is that of the Labour Party ‘s Peter Obi whose supporters are better known as OBIDIENTS .

The message of the former Anambra state Governor for Nigerians to take back their country appears to be appealing to every segment of the Nigerian society

The OBIDIENT are Nigerians , who want to hear nothing about anyone else but Peter OBI,who they believe will bring about the much needed good governance in the country .

New converts drawn to his gospel are said to be swelling in size ahead of the election .

They have taken over the media space as well as the streets across the country pushing to see that power changes hands from the old to the new come 2023.

Last week ,Plateau state joined other states and organized one million march in Jos in support of Peter Obi ‘s presidential aspiration with a massive turn out of the citizens irrespective of their party ,ethnic and religious affiliations ,with all clamouring for an end to bad governance in the country.

As it is ,the question remains :Are Nigerians moving away from party politics to focusing on Individuals standing for an election ?

Can the massive support being enjoyed by Peter Obi’s presidential aspiration translate to electoral victory in 2023?

Only time will tell.
