NCS launch fresh investigation into Jos prison attack, recapture more escaped inmates

The Nigerian Correctional Service says it has begun a fresh investigation to unravel the circumstances behind Jos prison attack at its Medium Security Custodial Centre in Jos, the Plateau state capital.

The Deputy Controller General of the Nigeria Correctional Service (Operations), Mohammed Tukur, disclosed this after visiting the facility on Tuesday.

Jay FM had reported that the Jos Correctional Centre was on Sunday invaded by gunmen who attacked the facility killing nine persons while a total of 262 inmates escaped.

Briefing journalists on the outcome of his visit, the Deputy Controller General also disclosed that more inmates who escaped during the attack had been recaptured.

According to him, a total of seventeen inmates had so far been recaptured while efforts were ongoing to recapture more.

The Deputy Controller General praised the gallantry of officers and the synergy existing between the sister security agents which he noted made it possible for the officers to subdue the assailants.

On whether there was an insider connivance regarding the attack on the Jos Correctional Centre, the Deputy Controller General said he won’t be able to tell adding that the outcome of their investigation would reveal the situation of things.
