NECA challenges Federal Government on approach to boost forex inflows

Written by on June 27, 2023

The Nigeria Employers Consultative Association, NECA,  is saying that the Federal Government should adopt a multidimensional approach including dealing with oil theft to boost foreign exchange inflows and  strengthen the Naira.

The Director General, NECA, Wale-Smatt Oyerinde, recommended this in during a press conference, yesterday June 26th.

Explaining why the Summit focused on trade and non-oil export, Oyerinde says historically, the Nigerian economy was buoyant during the pre- and post-independence years because of huge earnings from non-oil exports like cocoa, cotton, groundnut, palm oil and others.

Now, the Federal Government says the Wachakal airstrip, Nguru in Yobe State, is now 85 percent completed.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace, Dr. Emmanuel Meribole, who disclosed this during a test flight conducted on the airstrip, also says the completion of the project will reform the Aviation sector, while improving livelihood.

Director of Aerodrome Development, Engineer Clement Awogbami  who represented the Permanent Secretary says despite the inflation that  caught up with the project, the Federal Government started the project about a year ago and significant progress has been recorded.

He further attributes the project’s success to the level of commitment and concern to reform in the aviation sector.
