The National headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party has dismissed the speech presented by the Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed during the extra –ordinary meeting of National Council on Information   recently held in Jos in which he accused opposition in the country of being responsible for hate speeches, disinformation and fake news.

In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary , Prince Dayo Adeyeye in Abuja on Sunday, the PDP said it is taken aback by the Minister’s allegation when in reality, he and other APC leaders are the ones promoting  and sustaining hate speeches in the country.

Noting that hate speeches, intimidation and harassment has been the hallmark of APC activities in the past years, the PDP spokesman recalled how Lai Mohammed as Spokesman of the AC N at a press conference in 2013 raised a false alarm alleging that the federal government under President Goodluck Jonathan had awarded an oil pipe-line protection contract to serve as smokescreen in funding activities that would create chaos in the  South West region which turned out to be false

The PDP also recalled how Lai Mohammed in the same year   mischievously alleged that President Jonathan had issued a presidential directive targeted at witch-hunting the former Lagos State Governor, Bola Tinubu in order to stop the merger of AC N and other political parties which also turned out to be a hoax

The PDP further recalled how a hate speech credited to President Mohammadu  Buhari  caused wide-spread violence and killings of innocent Nigerians in the 2011 General elections as well as a threat by the APC National Chairman,John Oyegun  to form a parallel government if the 2015 election was not in their favour ,heightening tension in the country  and wondered how the Minister of Information who had been at the fore-front of promoting activities aimed at causing disaffection among Nigerians would turn round to accuse anyone of hate speech

The PDP  while  describing  the accusation  as a desperate attempt  to divert attention from the ruling government’s failures, PDP also  advised  the  Minister of Information and other APC leaders to concentrate on doing the business of the people and endeavour to speak the truth always as Nigerians now know better
