President Tinubu directs NEC to work on Subsidy palliatives

Written by on June 8, 2023

President Bola Tinubu has directed the National Economic Council, NEC, led by Vice President Kashim Shettima, to begin the process of working on interventions to cushion the impact of subsidy removal on Nigerians.

The President’s directive came after governors of the 36 states of the federation threw their weights behind the removal of petrol subsidy. This is even as major oil marketers yesterday donated 100 mass transit buses worth N10 billion to the federal government to cushion the effect of subsidy removal. The governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, stated this after leading some major oil marketers on a courtesy call to President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. Elsewhere, Senator representing Borno South in the Senate, Ali Ndume, has advised President Bola Tinubu to avoid ‘political loyalty’ in his cabinet appointment. This comes after the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila was appointed as Chief of Staff, while the former Deputy Governor of Jigawa State, Sen. Ibrahim Hassan Hadejia as Deputy Chief of Staff and former Governor of Benue State, George Akume as Secretary to the Government of the Federation.Similarly, the Senate on Tuesday approved President Tinubu’s appointment of 20 Special Advisers .
