Written by on July 25, 2023

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, is set to meet with President Bola Tinubu as part of efforts to avert the planned industrial action by the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors, NARD.

Abbas notes that his meeting with the President is to inform him of the pending issues raised by NARD and appeal to the President on how to resolve them.

At a meeting with the national leadership of NARD on Monday in Abuja, the Speaker also announced the setting up of an ad hoc committee to be chaired by the House Leader, Julius Ihonvbere, which will meet with all the stakeholders to address the issues.

Abbas is also appealing to the resident doctors to give the House leadership a two week period to find solutions to the issues raised.

Still there, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has inaugurated an Ad hoc Committee to investigate the alleged $9.05 billion revenue loss from gas flaring in the last decade in Nigeria.

Abbas charges the committee to get to the root causes of gas flaring and make recommendations to end the menace.

He says the probe is an acknowledgement of the urgent need to understand and mitigate the environmental, social, and economic impacts of this practice.

According to him, gas flaring represents a tremendous waste of valuable resources, a precious energy source that could be utilized for various beneficial purposes.
