There have been jubilation in several parts of Plateau state following Wednesday Supreme Court judgment which sacked Former Borno state Governor,Senator Alimodu Sheriff as the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party.
The Court which also reinstated former Kaduna State Governor,Ahmed Makarfi as the leader of the party equally held that the May 21,2016 convention of the PDP which removed Sheriff was legally constituted and acted within the bonds of the party’s constitution.
Shortly after the judgment ,party members and supporters were seen trooping into the PDP Secretariat located at the Yakubu Gowon Way in Jos to congratulate one another for the new hope that has been restored in the party.
Many of the stakeholders who spoke with JAY FM expressed joy that the Supreme Court judgment has effectively ended all forms of disagreement within the PDP fold.
Also in his reaction ,former member of the House of Representatives, Bitrus Kaze who described the judgment as the best thing that has happened to the party urged members to unite and work to rebuild the party in the interest of Nigerians and democracy in the country
The National Secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was in joyous mood yesterday shortly the Supreme Court judgement that reinstated Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led National Caretaker Committee as leadership of the party.
The victorious group who was later joined by party supporters and establishment staff drove straight from the premises of the Supreme Court to take possession of Wadata Plaza, the PDP National Secretariat.
Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose, members of Board of Trustees (BoT) led by Prof. Jerry Gana, members of the National Assembly and former PDP ministers, were among party members who stormed the party’s national secretariat.
Makarfi said the victory was not just for PDP, but for the nation’s democracy. He said this affirms the powers of political parties; and of convention of all political parties.
He, however, said there is no victor, no vanquished, and said the party would embark on reconciliation.
Makarfi said the caretaker committee would soon come up with programme on how to move the party forward after consultations with other stakeholders.
He appreciated the judiciary and Nigerians for standing with the caretaker committee during the trying period.
Fayose said the judgement has placed PDP on good stead to return to power in 2019 as the party would make maximum use of its resurgence.
