TCN’s planned maintenance spells two months power outage in Ondo and Ekiti

Written by on July 1, 2024

Electricity consumers in Ondo and Ekiti states may be thrown into a two-month power outage due to a planned repair by the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN.

A public notice by the Benin Electricity Distribution Company, BEDC, on X says the maintenance work would be carried out on the 132kV Akure-Osogbo transmission line.

According to BEDC, the upgrade will disrupt the power supply to Ondo and Ekiti states for two months.

It indicates that the affected states would experience power outages that would last nine hours daily, starting from Monday, July 1, which is today, to August 31.

On its part, the Ekiti State Government has rejected the planned power outage for two months—July and August.

Benin Electricity Distribution Company, earlier in a circular, informed the public, especially its customers in Ekiti and neighboring Ondo State, of this plan.

However, Ekiti, opposing the move, says it is completely unacceptable the economic, financial, and social price to be paid by the citizens of the state.

The government also asks for the suspension of such a plan and demands an emergency meeting with the stakeholders affected, scheduled for tomorrow, at the Ekiti State Government Secretariat.
